Like bats taking flight from their shadowy cave, gothic metal band The Sixth Chamber has emerged, releasing the lyric music video to their latest single “Walpurgis Night.” The newest track will be part of the group’s third full-length album, which is currently in the works, and nocturnal souls are sure to revel in it.
The lyrics could have been plucked from a Bram Stoker novel, and indeed there is a direct reference to the author’s book Dracula with the mention of Mina Murray in the opening lines. If ever there was to be an animated version of the classic Gothic tale, the accompanying video to this song could capture the spirit nicely.
It opens with the image of an immortal creature, fangs bare, with blood dripping from his lips down his chin. What ensues is a horror narrative. The vampire pays a visit to Miss Mina and the scene depicts him bent over her unconscious body, lingering dangerously close to her neck. Victorian and Gothic influences permeate the video, and the inclusion of the violin, played by Lillian Liu, adds romantic depth to the sound.
Centering the song on the pagan holiday Walpurgis Night further highlights the band’s flair for weaving literary and historical references into their music. The celebration is associated with witches and often likened to Halloween—a night when the veil between the living and dead is at its thinnest, and all sorts of dark entities arise…even vampires.
How does the story conclude, you may be wondering? Well, you must watch the video for yourself to discover what happens to the damsel in distress.
So, without further ado, here’s the official lyric video to The Sixth Chamber’s “Walpurgis Night!”
