Twin Tribes is embarking on yet another exciting chapter in their music careers. Band members Luis Navarro and Joel Niño, Jr. unveiled a new EP this past September titled Ecos and will be heading out on a Latin American tour later this fall. I had the pleasure of interviewing the duo to talk about the EP and upcoming shows.
First, allow me to introduce you to Twin Tribes. They’re a darkwave band hailing from Brownsville, Texas, creating music inspired by gothic rock, new wave, synth pop, and rock en español. The rock en español influences are at the forefront in their latest EP. Ecos includes covers of two classic rock en español songs: “Tren Al Sur” (1990) by Los Prisioneros from Chile and “Lobo Hombre en París” (1984) by La Unión from Spain. With this EP, Navarro and Niño are expressing appreciation for their musical predecessors and keeping their voices alive.

When it comes to the goth subculture, Twin Tribes is certainly adding to the Latinx representation and diversity in the scene. The members take a lot of pride in their Mexican roots and have included Spanish language tracks on past albums. So, it’s no wonder that Ecos and the approaching LATAM tour are significant to the pair.
I was grateful for the opportunity to do a virtual interview with Twin Tribes to ask them about the new EP and tour. Enjoy this interview with members Luis and Joel!

Very nice interview. They sound a bit like Depeche Mode.

Thank you! And that makes sense since Depeche Mode was one of the early new wave bands they listened to.
