Luci Ferrum is making her mark in the industrial and eletro music spaces. Born in Russia and now based in the Dominican Republic, she’s bringing her blend of hypnotic digital beats to listeners worldwide and diversifying the Caribbean soundscape. She recently came out with a new EP titled Post Mortem Invictus, a project that explores the depths of raw emotions and delivers rhythms that strike you to the core.
Luci Ferrum entered the music scene in 2021 and has released several singles and one EP during that time. She’s a well-rounded musician who sings, writes her lyrics, and composes. There’s an undeniable authenticity that comes through in this new album. It includes five tracks that delve deep into the shadow side of the psyche and the drive to overcome suffering. A press release for the EP explains, “Each track cuts into a different psychological fracture and the strange strength that rises from it.”
“Death by thousand cuts
I’m your snowflake
Bring your favorite scissors
And meet me by the lake
Knowing how to shape me
Create me custom made
Cut me into angel
And rid me of mistakes”
-Lyrics from “Custom Made”

This EP evokes the sounds of the 90s goth scene for me. Luci Ferrum’s vocals have hints of Switchblade Symphony and the industrial style brought to mind bands like Kidney Thieves and Collide. These elements are really evident in “Hope for the Rope.” “Custom Made” is one of my favorite songs with its dark ethereal influences. Some of the artist’s musical inspirations are Björk, Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, Skinny Puppy, and Godkomplex, so it’s no surprise that this new work possesses a sound that hearkens back to the essence of 90s industrial music.
And, because I love dark art, I cannot fail to mention the EP’s cover illustration. It’s stunning with splashes of vibrant crimson and robotic gear details encompassing an otherworldly female figure. The artwork for each track on this album has similar themes, and it’s eye-catching, amplifying the allure of her music.
I enjoyed this new release from Luci Ferrum, and I think it’s amazing that she’s creating a dark electronic music scene in the Dominican Republic. Post Mortem Invictus is now streaming on most music platforms.
