Horror film director John Carpenter is coming out with his first graphic novel titled Cathedral through Storm King Comics. It’s set to debut this summer and will divulge a whole new tale of terror. Here’s what’s been announced so far!
The story centers on a dilapidated cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. No one pays it any attention, and passersby are completely oblivious to the evil it conceals. A horrible murder one night, however, brings the abandoned building out of obscurity.
More details about the plot have been revealed in an official press release saying that the homicide triggers “a police investigation into the loss of one of their own. Lieutenant Christine Marks, along with detectives Paul Hernandez and Steve Mayfield, must enter the church in search of the monster that murdered her father. Every step takes them deeper into the belly of the church revealing the mystery of an ancient evil imprisoned within.”
Besides this being Carpenter’s first graphic novel, what makes this project all the more intriguing is that the idea came to him in his slumber.
“I saw it in a dream: a nightmare landscape deep underground filled with monsters too weird and sinister to exist in daylight,” says John Carpenter. “I knew instantly I had to get these things out of my head and into everyone else’s brains.”
“We have a saying at Storm King, ‘Every dream should be a nightmare,'” adds Sandy King. “By reading CATHEDRAL you can take John’s dream and let it become your next nightmare.”
Carpenter is an amazing storyteller who brought us the iconic horror movie Halloween, as well as many others. There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding this graphic novel. Plus, since he’s also a composer, he’s creating a soundtrack to go along with the comic. More details on that to come.
Sandy King, Carpenter’s wife, is the founder of Storm King Comics and helped co-write Cathedral. She’s got a lot of accomplishments under her belt and is the first woman to establish a comic publishing house. These two are such a powerhouse, and it’s going to be exciting to see what frights are in store.
