Divine Shade is starting the year off on a high note with the release of their debut full-length album, Fragments-Vol. 1. The neo-industrial band has roots in Lyon, France. They’ve been around for a decade, releasing singles and touring across Europe. While I’ve reviewed a couple of their tracks, I was eager to listen to their first LP.

Fragments-Vol. 1 was produced in collaboration with prominent figures in the alternative music scene, including Chris Vrenna (ex-Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Tweaker), Chris Payne (ex-Tubeway Army, co-writer of Visage’s single “Fade to Grey”), Steve Fox-Harris (guitarist for Gary Numan, Archive) and others. The album is a blend of industrial, coldwave, and dark electronic beats. This stimulating mix complements the overarching theme of resilience that has been part of every song the group has created for the LP.

The opening track, “Into Darkness,” drew me in. It has a dark ambient feel to it that brings listeners into a foreboding universe. It does a great job at setting the tone for what you’re about to hear. Divine Shade has also recorded a couple of tracks in French, which adds a nice variety to the album. “Ruines et Cendres” contained hints of Nine Inch Nails influences that I enjoyed.

Overall, Fragments-Vol. 1 delivers a balance of hard-hitting, edgy sounds and hypnotic, flowing rhythms. I think it’s a wonderful album for industrial music fans, as well as anyone curious about the neo-industrial genre. Divine Shade’s newest LP is out now and streaming on various music platforms.

    1. Oh, I think there might be some confusion. “Where to Stalk” is the section where I put relevant links to whatever I’m covering in the blog post. It isn’t the name of any of the tracks. But the album is great.
