Fans of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, streaming on Netflix, are being treated to a special event that gives a behind-the-scenes look of the film. For five days only, from January 6 to January 11, FRANKENSTEIN: Crafting a Tale Eternal has come to Los Angeles at NYA Studios West in Hollywood. The exclusive exhibit was previously in London, England, last fall and has crossed the seas to America. I had the fortune of walking through this immersive experience, and I left in awe.

In 1818, Mary Shelley published her first major work, Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus. More than 200 years later, the novel is still popular among gothic horror fans. Not only has it sparked numerous movie adaptations, but the monster of the narrative has been the inspiration behind Halloween costumes, haunts and a Frankenstein-themed bar in the UK. The author also continues to be a prominent literary figure today, inspiring countless contemporary horror writers. There’s even an annual holiday commemorating her birthday and notorious book, Frankenstein Day on August 30th. August 30th is Frankenstein Day, a date that honors the classic novel by Mary Shelley, as well as her birthday. To commemorate this annual event, I thought it would be fun to share some ways we can all pay tribute.
