When I initially wrote this blog post, we were half-way through 2020. At the time, my mind flashed back to the moment I was excitedly counting down to the New Year, having no clue the months ahead would drastically transform humanity’s existence. That year challenged us significantly, to say the least—first with the global pandemic and then, with the call to action to take an active stance against racism.

Major shifts can send anyone into overload, and there comes a point when you need to stop and center yourself. Change and challenges are an inevitable and a natural part of existence. They’re what help us grow, and what matters is how we react to them. So, what are some of the best ways you can decompress when life becomes heavy? Channeling Spirits: An Evening Séance at Ipso Facto

Séances, also known as spirit circles, first gained widespread notoriety during the 19th-century Spiritualist movement in late Victorian England. They were gatherings where individuals sought to contact the “other side” to communicate with the dead. Although some were exposed as nothing but smoke and mirrors, there were devout Spiritualists that took the ritual seriously and strove to tap into a Higher Self. More than 150 years later, the practice is still alive. I recently attended a spirit circle at Ipso Facto, a goth/alternative shop in Fullerton, California, that has been hosting séances for the past two years.
