Musician Dolly Dagger emerged just a few years ago and has since been blazing across the LA music scene. Originally from Australia, she’s made the City of Angels her home base and primary place to create. If her stage name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the title of a well-known Jimi Hendrix tune, and it suits her style well. Her multifaceted alternative rock sound cuts through the BS to reveal hardcore truths about existence. She’s recently unleashed a powerful new single, “Tower,” along with an accompanying music video.

Visually, the music video takes viewers on an enchanted adventure and gives the sense you’re watching a dark fairytale unfold. However, Dolly Dagger is no damsel in distress; she proves to be a fearless heroine who’s slaying her inner demons, both figuratively and literally. The characters she portrays embody both feminine and masculine energies and an unrelenting drive to harness their power. In one scene, we see her standing steady amid tumultuous ocean waves donning a white gown. In another, she’s wielding a sword, dressed as a warrior knight, and fighting a dragon-like figure.

The song also draws inspiration from the Tarot, which can be heard in the lyrics with lines such as “the fool underneath” and “It’s a higher gear, a higher power, 6 of swords, you were my tower.” In certain parts of the music video, the singer embodies Lady Justice. Dagger addresses Fate directly in the single, proclaiming that she’s in control of her own destiny. The Tarot is meant to guide us and show us that we have many paths to choose, and ultimately, we have the power to direct the outcome. Collectively, the Fool, Six of Swords and Tower cards represent change, progress and moving forward into the unknown. The artist elaborates on the song’s significance, saying:

“Conceptually, it’s about not only moving on, but up! We all have those moments in our lives where we make it out the other side of something impactful or that changes us. Making it out is one thing, and letting it go and reclaiming your power or confidence is a whole other challenge. This song presented as a real opportunity to vent, but I didn’t want to give any more power to the past so instead of repeating negatively, it was important to me that the lyrics depicted what I did about it, how I recovered from it; how I felt pulling myself out of it not as a victim but as a victor of my own self and identity.”

In the end, our bold heroine has conquered her enemy and sprouted a pair of dragon wings, proving she’s ready to take flight and set off on a new journey.

Dolly Dagger put her mind, body and soul into this project. Not only does she provide the vocals and possess the starring role, but she also wrote the lyrics, laid out the visuals and directed the music video. Contributing to the concept and making of “Tower” are fellow songwriter and guitarist Jesse McInturff and producer, co-writer and drummer Louie Diller. This latest release is certainly a testament to the singer’s abundance of creativity and fiery musical spirit.
