Dark soundscapes are emanating from Scandinavian lands, generated by Mörksugga. This one-man band was formed by Ulrik who’s based in Sweden and has been involved in the music scene since he was a teen. He recently released his first full-length album titled Så Småningom Tar Allting Slut, which translates to “eventually, everything ends.” The work is riveting and has a pounding intensity that persists from start to finish.
Ulrik began his music journey playing black metal during his teenage years. However, when embarking on this project, the genre no longer called to him. Instead, he found himself drawn to dark ambient sounds, being inspired by bands such as Brighter Death Now and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio. His debut LP, which fuses together dark ambient and industrial music, took two years to come together with him handling the composing and recording. Marko Tervonen, from the Swedish death metal band The Crown, took care of the final mixing and mastering.
On his Bandcamp page, Mörksugga states, “Written and recorded between 2022 and 2024, this is the result of emotions coming together forming a dark musical entity that now is the debut full length album by Mörksugga.” Indeed, the album is dark but not dismal. It seems to play on fear and carries a suspenseful tone.
The initial track, “Skända Din Nästa,” which means “desecrate your neighbor,” drops the listener straight into a formidable abyss. The sound effects are powerful and cryptic. With each proceeding track, more of the horror story unfolds.
Since the titles are in Swedish (with the exception of track 5), I was curious to translate them. Each piece has a captivating name that contributes to the LP’s overarching theme. Hopefully, the translations I found are more or less accurate. A few that stood out to me were “Ett Minne Ristat I Hud” (A Memory Carved in Skin), “Den Osalige Andes Närvaro” (The Presence of the Unfortunate Spirit), and “I Död Och Lust” (In Death and Lust). These titles are a testament to the sinister atmosphere being created and clearly communicate what type of realm you’re entering.
“Affirmation” struck a chord in me and is my favorite track. It emanates haunting energy with effects that sound like howls in the wind and ghosts in the ether. Its steady, pulsating beat feels ritualistic. I could listen to it on repeat and get lost in it.
Så Småningom Tar Allting Slut makes it evident that Mörksugga truly feels at home within the dark ambient genre. This first album showcases his ability to compose intriguing soundscapes that obliterate the world you know and transport you to an entirely different dimension. This music could easily be the score to a horror film or accompany an occult ritual. I’m glad I can add this to my music library and eager to see what Mörksugga conjures next.

This was a very well written and intriguing presentation of this artist. Especially interesting to me being Swedish. However, I would not translate “Den Osalige Andes Närvaro” to “The Presence of the Unfortunate Spirit”. “osalig” isn’t really unfortunate, it is more like “unholy” or “horrible” maybe “restless”.

I knew you’d be able to tell me how accurate those translations are. Thank you for the clarification. And I appreciate your kind words about this review!
