If you want to feel as if you’ve stepped back in time to the Victorian period, head to Burnt Umber Coffee & Tea Room. Located in Garden Grove, California, this cafe is beautifully decorated and has a delightful beverage selection. They’ve been open for a few years, and I finally stopped in.Â
While the exterior may not scream 19th century, the interior certainly does. As soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted by gothic decor. It’s evident that careful thought was given to detail. The drapery, furnishings, and even the espresso machine looked as if they came from the Victorian era. There was a stunning gramophone in one corner that caught my eye. It looked quite vintage.
Burnt Umber Coffee Shop opened in 2023 in partnership with Petals & Poison, a Victorian gothic-inspired brand offering specialty teas. The tea room underwent construction and debuted later in spring 2025. Together, they make up Burnt Umber, a family-owned business that takes coffee and tea seriously.
The family, which consists of dad, mom, and two sisters, has done their due diligence when it comes to studying and researching what makes excellent coffee and tea. Their first TikTok post shared how they’ve visited over 100 coffee and tea houses. They also operate a coffee shop in Tustin Ranch, California, and the Petals & Poison brand had already been established since 2014. It’s evident that plenty of thought and intention went behind establishing Burnt Umber.
They use the highest quality coffee beans and teas to craft their delicious drinks. Some of their signature items include Dorian Gray, Hallows Eve, Dollhouse Tea Latte, and Scarborough Fair Latte. I decided to order the Harvest Moon Latte for my first visit. The blend of nutmeg, brown sugar, and cinnamon got my attention. It tasted like autumn! They also offer a small selection of food and pastries.
I had a wonderful time exploring the cafe. The tea room provides more space to sit and enjoy your libations and treats. It was filled with guests when I was there. In this area were lovely painted portraits hanging on the walls. There’s also outdoor seating available if you can’t find room indoors or you just want to enjoy the weather.
Burnt Umber Coffee & Tea Room featuring Petals & Poison is a wonderful spot for coffee and tea lovers. They’re open seven days a week until 4 p.m. You can find current hours on their social media pages. I’ll include those below.

There were a few tea and coffee houses that looked like that in Strathcona County that I used to visit when I lived in northern Alberta.

That coffee shop certainly looks nice and it is great that the coffee and tea was excellent. We were recently in New Orleans and we found a pirate themed coffee shop. It also had a vicorian plus pirate vibe and decor and good coffee.
