UK-based band Hurtsfall has come out with a new single titled “Memento Mori.” The darkwave/post-punk group is no stranger to macabre subject matter when it comes to their music, and their latest release confronts death head on. It’s brooding, introspective, and, oddly enough, pulsing with life.

The phrase “memento mori” is a beautiful yet heavy reminder of our mortality. Hurtsfall’s new track ruminates over the impermanence of human existence and the desire to foster intimate connections that transcend time and space. How can our relationships survive and not be defined by the inevitability of death? The song expresses that the bonds we create with each other should be coveted while there’s still breath in our lungs.

Lead singer Sam’s vocals pair seamlessly with the delicate nature of the track. His poetic and soulful voice vibrates with a touching melancholy that seeps into your bones as the song plays. “Memento Mori” blends the spirit of gothic rock with synth elements and is influenced by bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Joy Division. Regarding the single, Hurtsfall says:

“Memento Mori” is about confronting the finite nature of life—a raw cry from those moments of conflict, distance, and indecision in a relationship. A morbid reminder to appreciate every moment with the one you love, as everything is ultimately temporary.

Besides making new music, Hurtsfall has been busy performing across the United Kingdom. They’ve done performances at Dot to Dot Festival, Whitby Goth Weekend, and Infest. They’ve also shared the stage with other notable musicians, such as Ghost Dance, Skeletal Family, Miranda Sex Garden, and Aurelio Voltaire. And the trio shows no sign of slowing down. They have several shows lines up over the coming months in the UK, so attend a performance if you’re local.

You can stream “Memento Mori” on a variety of music platforms. Follow Hurtsfall on social media to keep up with their latest projects.
