The queens of darkness, The Boulet Brothers, recently went on tour with the finalists of Dragula: Titans season 2. They were joined by Abhora, Jay Kay, Jaharia, and the winner of S2, Evah Destruction. The Titans Tour of Terror traveled across the U.S., and I attended the show in Los Angeles. What a night of drag entertainment!
Welcome to the Titans Tour of Terror— Los Angeles

If you’re new around here, I have to start off by sharing that I’m a huge fan of the Boulet Brothers and their drag competition TV series, Dragula. I’ve attended their live performances for the past few years and always look forward to them. This year, the show took place at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California. It was my first time at this venue, and it was gorgeous inside.

The Fonda Theatre is one of LA’s historic venues and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year! The interior was quite gothic-inspired and hasn’t lost its vintage elegance. On the walls of the foyer hung several glowing sconces, which I found enchanting.

This year, instead of doing standing room on the ground floor, I got seats on the balcony level, which offered great views of the stage. On the stage were gothic pillars and gravestones. At one point, two gravediggers emerged to shovel “dirt” and perhaps dig up some bodies.

It’s always thrilling when Drac and Swan emerge. Their opening number was pulsating with magical energy. In fact, they brought out a cauldron to do some spellwork. They also looked stunning in their long, black latex gowns that had high slits up one leg and high neck collars. After they welcomed the audience, it was time for the other performers to strut their stuff on stage.
The show was divided into two acts, and each of the four finalists had one solo performance for both acts. I’ll give a brief overview of each drag performer.
Abhora

Abhora, who has become a Dragula legend, delivered some outrageous performances. They were on Dragula season 2 and Dragula: Titans season 1, so this is their third time being on the show. However, it was my first time seeing them perform live. Abhora is disastrous in the best way possible.
For their first number, they were a money-hungry villain with a look that reminded me of the Penguin from Tim Burton’s film Batman Returns. Their costume was also inflatable to signal that greed was threatening to implode them. Abhora’s second number was full of high-octane momentum. They came out into the audience on stilts and moved around the ground floor to a song I believe was by the industrial band Ministry. The music was pounding and lights were flashing. It was intense.
Jay Kay

Jay Kay was originally on Dragula season 5. They have a mischievous, playful energy and don’t take themselves too seriously. This came through in a fun way on stage. Jay Kay really upped their game on Titans season 2, and it was amazing to see their talent in action. Their first performance was electric, and they had fake guns as arms, which added a nice touch. Their second number was a bit a more subdued and was French-inspired.
Jaharia

Jaharia competed on Dragula season 6. On Titans season 2, she was funny and animated and kept it real. Her first performance was punk-inspired, from the song to her vibrant outfit. She knows how to move her body on stage. Her second performance was darker, and her costume showed off her crafting skills. Her dress had fours arms protruding out, which had a cool effect as she glided across the stage.
Evah Destruction

Evah Destruction was on Dragula season 3 and the first season of Dragula: Titans. She won the crown and title of Titans super monster on Titans season 2. She possesses exquisite craftsmanship when it comes to her looks. I did see her live during the Titans season 1 tour, and it was awesome getting to see her again. Both of her performances were elegantly macabre.
She performed to a Lady Gaga/Nine Inch Nails mashup for her first number. Her removable skull face was a nice trick. Her final number was truly immaculate. She was the goddess Styx who guards the underworld. The hem of her gown had a boat shape, so with her staff, she looked as if she was wading through the River Styx on stage.
Other Highlights

One of the best numbers of the night, though, was when all of the finalists came together to perform a Rocky Horror Picture Show-inspired song that they did on the show! It was campy, naughty, and devilish. Originally, Cynthia Doll and Sigourney Beaver were also a part of this. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to do their roles on the tour, so a couple of crew members filled in for them. It was still entertaining, and I enjoyed it.

The Boulet Brothers also took to the stage throughout the night. Besides singing and doing a short comedy bit, the real highlight for me was seeing them record a portion of their dark podcast Creatures of the Night live! Yes, hosts Drac and Swan did a Q&A with the audience for their podcast. They had announced that they had this planned for their tour on an episode of Creatures of the Night, so I had been looking forward to it. They answered a few questions and gave some nice behind-the-scenes insight into the show. It was fantastic!

It’s become a tradition for me to buy a t-shirt from the merch table, so I added a new Boulet Brothers tee to my wardrobe. On a side note, actor David Dastmalchian, who’s starred in many horror films (i.e., Late Night with the Devil, The Boogeyman), was at the show. He and the Boulet Brothers are good friends, and he’s appeared as a judge on Dragula a few times.
Funnily, he was the reason the show didn’t start on time. He and his family were running late and arrived about 20 minutes after the show was scheduled to start. The Boulets cracked a joke about it later in the night. He was seated a few rows ahead of me, and I couldn’t help but steal glances when he’d get up. I think he’s a great actor, and I like his eccentric personality.
Conclusion

The Boulet Brothers are supposed to have a new season of Dragula coming out this year. I’m excited to hear more details. If you’re interested in learning more, follow them on social media and stream the TV series on Shudder and AMC+.
