A Night with Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese and The Copper Coupe

Not since Gypsy Rose Lee has the art of burlesque looked so chic and tasteful until Dita Von Teese arrived on the scene more than 20 years ago. The performer’s notoriety, as well as fan base, has increased immensely over the years and the world is a more glittering place because of it.

The year 2018 will see Dita Von Teese, the queen of burlesque, and her “vontourage” setting out on a new tour, The Copper Coupe presented by Absolut Elyx. Continue reading “A Night with Dita Von Teese”

Best Ways to Keep the Halloween Spirit Alive Year-Round

potion-skull-poe-book630

If you’re like me, you start the countdown to next Halloween once November 1st hits. I absolutely love when fall rolls around, especially when October begins. Both my birthday and favorite holiday happen during this time. Some celebrate All Hallows’ Eve just for the day, some make it a month-long fete. For me, Ministry got it right when they sang “Every Day is Halloween.” For those of you out there that feel the same, here are some of the best ways to keep the Halloween spirit alive throughout the year.

Images of Aleister Crowley, Baphomet, serpents, a skull-faced Virgin Mary, inverted crosses and the number 666 fill the gallery space at These Days in Los Angeles. This is the realm created by Leafar Seyer for his debut solo art exhibition “The Pain Isn’t Over.” The artist is one half of the duo Prayers — self-described cholo goth musicians who formed the electronic rock group back in 2013. Julien-K’s Time Capsule – A Future Retrospective

Julien-K Time Capsule - A Future Retrospective
Julien-K Time Capsule – A Future Retrospective

Julien-K is the electro-rock group spearheaded by former Orgy band members Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck. They formed in the early 2000s and since then, have made quiet a name for themselves in the underground music scene. With four full-length albums under the band’s belt, they decided to run one of their most ambitious Indiegogo campaigns in 2017 – a four disk cd set featuring a total of more than 60 unheard tracks. As a fan, I was not going to pass up the opportunity to support the project and add this rarity to my audio collection. Continue reading “Julien-K’s Time Capsule – A Future Retrospective”

The Endless Night Los Angeles Vampire Ball

Endless Night Los Angeles Vampire Ball 2018
Endless Night Los Angeles Vampire Ball 2018

It was a dark and magical moonlit evening. I was dressed to the nines in a tightly laced-up black corset, black lace skirt, fishnet stockings and black boots. I felt like Cinderella in a gothic fairy tale headed to the Endless Night Vampire Ball, except this event wasn’t ceasing at midnight. Continue reading “The Endless Night Los Angeles Vampire Ball”

Foggy Forest

There are many places around the world that carry mystery, possess secrets and completely puzzle humankind. Following is just a small selection of destinations with peculiar histories that I recently learned about and find interesting. Are these areas haunted by the past or are the stories that surround them simply figments of the imagination? You’ll have to judge for yourself. Who has seen the film Winchester?

If you’re interested in haunted houses, you may have heard of this mysterious mansion located in San Jose, California. It is notorious for its complex construction, which was spearheaded by widow and owner, Sarah Winchester. It’s said that she maintained nonstop construction on the house 24 hours a day, seven days a week from 1884 to 1922, the year of her death. Continue reading “Mystery Mansion: Winchester Film Review”

A Night at Bar Sinister

dj-club-scaled

The saying here goes “Leave your religions at the door and elevate your mind.” And those who enter these doors better pay heed because this is a place of no judgement. Individuals wear their personal statements, from tightly-laced corsets, fish net bodysuits, thigh-high PVC boots, spikes and some even sport a pair of fancy fangs. This sanctuary has been catering to the goth and alternative scene since the late 1990s. I was in high school when I first heard of Bar Sinister and not of age to get in, sadly for me. It would be about 15 years before my first visit! Here’s a glimpse inside. Continue reading “A Night at Bar Sinister”

A Bar for Dark Souls: Beetle House LA

beetlejuice

Those living in the New York City area may already know about the hideout dedicated to all things spooky and Tim Burton – Beetle House. Creator Zach Neil decided to give the City of Angels a taste of this wonderfully macabre establishment (much to my delight) by opening what was supposed to be only a pop-up location on Hollywood Boulevard back in May of 2017. More than a year later, the joint is still open and going strong. I’ve had the opportunity to return to this niche a few times and want to share my experience for anyone curious to know more about it. Continue reading “A Bar for Dark Souls: Beetle House LA”
