Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday. Now that 2018 is in the books, it’s time to get ready for what 2019 has in store. I have to say that I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend many amazing events this past year featuring uniquely talented individuals. In seeking out the odd and macabre happening near me, I discovered new places, experiences and people. In a previous blog post, I wrote about Dita Von Teese’s first burlesque tour Strip, Strip, Hooray! and briefly touched upon her newest U.S. production The Copper Coupe. Well, she and her entourage just completed taking the show around the States and I went not once, but twice! It was a must since she will not be touring stateside for the next two years.
With Dita Von Teese & The Copper Coupe, the queen of burlesque teamed up with Absolut Elyx to put on one of her best spectacles yet. She introduced new numbers, costumes and music that included tributes to George Michael, Amy Winehouse and Prince. For those curious as to what a copper coupe is (also known as a champagne saucer), it is a stemmed glass with a broad, shallow bowl. Not since Gypsy Rose Lee has the art of burlesque looked so chic and tasteful until Dita Von Teese arrived on the scene more than 20 years ago. The performer’s notoriety, as well as fan base, has increased immensely over the years and the world is a more glittering place because of it.
