I had the opportunity to experience The Queen Mary in a way I haven’t before. The historic ship hosts a special attraction called The Grey Ghost Project. “Grey Ghost” is the name the vessel garnered when it was used for military transportation during World War II. The project, however, is not at all like the other tours offered and is a methodical, hands-on paranormal investigation of the ship. It’s a novel approach that produced interesting interactions.

Another year has commenced, and you know what that means. It’s time to release my annual Odd & Macabre Events Calendar for 2024! This is always exciting for me to work on as it gives me a teaser of what devilish happenings I can look forward to in the coming months. And I hope it does the same for you, so you can fill your calendar with all sorts of spooky outings.
If you’re new here, allow me to explain the purpose of this page. It’s to be used as a helpful resource for anyone interested in attending events that are related to the worlds of horror, Halloween, alternative subcultures and the macabre in general. Many of these activities occur in Los Angeles because that’s where I’m based, but I don’t want anyone feeling left out, so I do my best to list affairs happening across the U.S. and worldwide. I do as much research as I can and am always open to suggestions. If you know about an event that would fit perfectly on this calendar, just drop your recommendations in the comments. This is a work in progress as new events pop up continuously throughout the year, so bookmark this page so you can easily refer back to it for updates. Here’s to another odd and macabre-filled year!

A tradition that pays homage to the dead and began in Mexico with the Aztec and Nahua tribes is alive and well today. I’m referring to Dia de los Muertos. The holiday is a mix of Mesoamerican and European customs and celebrates the memory of those who’ve departed from this earthly realm. Hollywood Forever Cemetery held their annual Dia y Noche del los Muertos event and this was my second year attending the latter. I’m here to tell you all about it and share photos from the evening.

You are cordially invited to attend a haunted tea party at The Vogel Victorian. Nestled within the historic district in downtown Santa Ana, CA, is a beautiful 19th-century structure that’s 125 years old. The lady of the manor is Diana Vogel who lives on the property with her husband and children. She has opened her home to guests and created an intimate experience that gives people the opportunity to explore the grounds and learn about its intriguing history.

For more than 20 years, Hollywood Forever cemetery has established an annual tradition that celebrates the Day of the Dead during the last Saturday of October. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a press event where they gave an exclusive preview of this year’s festivities and introduced the theme. It was an evening filled with delightful music, beautiful rituals, delicious food and vibrant décor.

Welcome to a land where ethereal creatures capture and exist within a full spectrum of emotions, from joviality to despair. This is the theme of the solo exhibition “Emotional Landscapes” by Karina who goes by Karikatura in the art realm. The Dark Art Emporium hosted the opening reception, and accompanying her works is a group show she personally curated titled “My Inner Monster,” featuring a variety of other amazing artists. Besides October 31st, this Halloween and horror convention is one of the biggest spooky events of the year and is the highlight of my summerween. The Dark Art Emporium has unleashed its latest exhibit, which is a double feature highlighting the works of PeeMonster and Michele Melcher. After nearly two years since my last visit, I was elated to return to the gallery for the opening reception. The show brought together elements of the ethereal and macabre and definitely satiated my appetite for dark art.
