Earlier this year, Terrifying True Stories hosted an event called Victorian Horror Stories in the Dark. They’ve returned with another immersive experience for spooky season titled Terrifying True Stories by Candlelight and I was grateful to be invited to attend. It was thrilling to be back at Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles to take part in the activities and witness macabre storytelling unfold right before my eyes.

I am utterly fascinated with the Victorian era, so when I got wind of an event called Victorian Horror Stories in the Dark, I had to check it out. The immersive experience was presented by the creators of the podcast Terrifying True Stories and took place at Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles. The evening included four haunting tales staged in four different Victorian manors.

I had the opportunity to experience The Queen Mary in a way I haven’t before. The historic ship hosts a special attraction called The Grey Ghost Project. “Grey Ghost” is the name the vessel garnered when it was used for military transportation during World War II. The project, however, is not at all like the other tours offered and is a methodical, hands-on paranormal investigation of the ship. It’s a novel approach that produced interesting interactions.

For the Halloween season, I returned to the House of Spirits, and this time to explore the legend of Vaughan Hall. I attended on October 15th, its first evening being open to the public. For 2022, the event took place at an entirely different venue in Los Angeles called Casa Vertigo. It offered up new live acts, performances, characters, cocktails and dark secrets.

I recently stepped back into the Roaring Twenties during my time at REVIVE—an immersive experience that delivered astounding circus performances while guests wined and dined. The show had its final run this past weekend and, although I’m sorry to say it has ended for now, I wanted to share details and photos I took throughout the evening. It was a night filled with delightful libations, delectable food and dazzling entertainment.

My interest was piqued when the oddities shop announced the event, and I had the chance to attend the recent grand opening. This past 2020 Halloween season was quite different, to say the least. Many haunts throughout Southern California were cancelled due to COVID restrictions and I know I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be walking through haunted mazes with monsters hiding in every corner waiting to jump out at me. But there was an alternate type of haunt that would arise due to the circumstances and these were drive-thru attractions.
