For a three-day weekend, the Belgium-based artistic duo Mothmeister brought their collection “Postmortem Fairy Tales” to Lethal Amounts Gallery. This was the pair’s first time exhibiting in Los Angeles, so it was a rare opportunity to see their work in person. Some of you may recall that I attended The Oddities Flea Market last September, its first time in Los Angeles. Well, the Brooklyn-based event returned this past weekend to the Globe Theatre. Since there was such an overwhelming turnout at the last flea market (I waited two hours in line to get in), husband and wife Ryan Matthew and Regina Marie Cohn spanned the occasion across two days. They also added an after-party on Saturday night, which I was happy to attend.

The Mystic Museum has launched its second art show of the year and it’s absolutely delightful — “Family Goals: Tribute to Gothic Families of TV!” The exhibit celebrated the films and 1960s TV sitcom of “The Addams Family” and “The Munsters.” Opening night was tons of fun and there was an incredible turnout. I attended Monsterpalooza in Pasadena, California, for the first time this past weekend. The three-day event, which was held this year from April 12th through April 14th, spotlights the makeup talent and special effects that go into creating such terrifying beings for horror and sci-fi films. Let me begin by saying that what I am about to describe is a horror fan’s nightmare come true. In a nutshell, I Like Scary Movies is an immersive art installation featuring five classic horror films — “The Shining,” “It,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Beetlejuice,” and “The Lost Boys.” But, it’s not your typical exhibit. Located in Santa Monica, California, Copro Gallery showcases high-quality works by up-and-coming artists. This past weekend, I attended opening night of its latest exhibit, “Conjoined vs. Grotesque: Denizens of the Dark.” The event welcomed the public to enter a morbidly fascinating world created by some of the most talented individuals in the Dark Contemporary Art Movement, motion picture and music industries and beyond. Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday. Now that 2018 is in the books, it’s time to get ready for what 2019 has in store. I have to say that I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend many amazing events this past year featuring uniquely talented individuals.
