This past weekend downtown Santa Ana was graced with a new and exciting event — Witch Walk! The Hype Priestess, a.k.a. Lacey Conine, is the woman behind the magical affair. The walk brings together small businesses and vendors that provide metaphysical/spiritual products and services. From blessed herb sachets to tarot card sessions, the offerings were abundant. The seven deadly sins are at the forefront of Copro Gallery’s newest exhibit. The establishment, located in Santa Monica, California, unveiled “Seven Sins: Transgressions in Art” this past weekend. The exhibit is curated by Cris Velasco, an avid collector of Dark Art and a composer renowned for his video game scores, which include “Resident Evil” and “Assassin’s Creed.” Also on display is “Loss” by self-taught artist Menton3. The collection is quite personal and inspired by the recent passing of his brother.

When we think of putting one’s ‘blood, sweat and tears’ into something, it’s usually intended figuratively. Vincent Castiglia, though, takes the phrase to an entirely literal and ethereal level. Creating pieces that draw from his own blood, he gives life to the subjects he imagines. They are no longer renderings on paper, but beings that possess and manifest a human lifeforce.
The Dark Art Emporium in Long Beach, California, is offering the public a rare opportunity to see Castiglia’s art up close. Recently, the gallery held an opening reception for the exhibit titled “Autopsy of the Soul” & Retrospective, which features more than 20 works. To lay eyes on the pieces was, like the art, surreal. For a three-day weekend, the Belgium-based artistic duo Mothmeister brought their collection “Postmortem Fairy Tales” to Lethal Amounts Gallery. This was the pair’s first time exhibiting in Los Angeles, so it was a rare opportunity to see their work in person. Some of you may recall that I attended The Oddities Flea Market last September, its first time in Los Angeles. Well, the Brooklyn-based event returned this past weekend to the Globe Theatre. Since there was such an overwhelming turnout at the last flea market (I waited two hours in line to get in), husband and wife Ryan Matthew and Regina Marie Cohn spanned the occasion across two days. They also added an after-party on Saturday night, which I was happy to attend.

The Mystic Museum has launched its second art show of the year and it’s absolutely delightful — “Family Goals: Tribute to Gothic Families of TV!” The exhibit celebrated the films and 1960s TV sitcom of “The Addams Family” and “The Munsters.” Opening night was tons of fun and there was an incredible turnout. In the gallery’s latest exhibit, The Dark Art Emporium presents the works of three artists – Rick “Dienzo” Blanco, Bob Doucette and Richard J. Frost. “Prone to Exaggeration” is an impressive collection of paintings that gives insight into the dark imaginings of each of its creators.
